Repeatedly facing Port Adelaide in scratch matches was “as hard as it’s going to get as a reserve”, Crows forward Billy Frampton has said.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions and the AFL quarantine bubble, both Clubs did not field SANFL teams in 2020 and played modified reserves games at Alberton Oval.
Frampton, a former Power player, said consistently facing the same team was difficult.
“We played around five matches (against Port Adelaide)... it was pretty strange,” Frampton told AFC Media.
“It was tough for everyone if you weren’t in the ones (to prove yourself)... it certainly wasn’t the most enjoyable year.
“I think that’s as hard as it’s going to get as a reserve.
“But at the same time I think we handled it the best we could, given the circumstances.”
Now focussed on 2021, Frampton said he felt in the best shape of his life ahead of his second year at the Crows.
“I’m probably in the best shape of my career in terms of time trials and weights in the gym,” he said.
“My body is feeling good, I haven’t missed a session yet in pre-season, touch wood.
“I’ve certainly come back feeling really fresh.”
The 24-year-old has also been impressed with Adelaide’s new recruits, particularly the draftees.
“They’re a good bunch of guys,” Frampton said.
“Riley (Thilthorpe) up forward looks really good. Some of the stuff he can do for a big fella, it’s very impressive.
“And Rowey (James Rowe), I really like what he brings.
“They’re a good bunch.”
