Adelaide AFLW captain Chelsea Randall has opened up about the “whirlwind” 24 hours which left players facing 14 days’ self-isolation.

A dominant performance in Perth saw the Crows take the season opener by 38 points on Saturday.

But due to a feared COVID-19 outbreak in Western Australia, the team was told it would be required to enter two weeks’ quarantine upon arrival back in Adelaide.

“It’s been a bit of a whirlwind 24 hours,” Randall said.

“We managed to get our flight back home to Adelaide, but we came off the plane and were told we had to self-isolate for 14 days.”

As restrictions stand, players and staff who travelled to Perth will be required to self-isolate and undertake COVID-19 tests on days one, five and 12.

Despite the looming uncertainty, Randall said the team was focussed on the bigger picture.

“It’s a challenging and changing environment with this COVID-19 situation but let’s be honest it’s not really about us, it’s about the health and wellbeing of our community,” she said.

“It’s not ideal... but it puts things into perspective, [the community] is what’s really important at the moment.”

Randall is staying level-headed amid the challenges that isolation presents.

“We’re still able to do team meetings and team reviews… we’re able to make do with what we have and we’ll continue to get direction from our strength and conditioning coaches moving forward,” she said.

“[The situation] is forever changing and us as players have become very good at trying to adapt and control what we can control.”

The Round Two clash against Fremantle this weekend has been postponed as the AFL works with state government to determine a revised fixture.
