To help celebrate the AFL's Indigenous Round, afc.com.au looks back at all the Indigenous players to have pulled on the Crows guernsey in an official match since the Club's inception in 1991.

Adelaide is one of few teams to boast two Indigenous players, who have played more than 200 games for the Club - Andrew McLeod (340) and Graham Johncock (212).

Eddie Hocking

Guernsey number: 8
Crows debut: Round 1 v Hawthorn, 1991
AFC games: 11
AFC goals: 4
Recruited from: Central District
DOB: January 6, 1970
Original squad selection 1991

One of the Adelaide Football Club’s first ‘cult figures’, Eddie Hocking’s short career with the club was one to remember. At 168cm, Hocking remains the smallest Crows player in history. Runner-up for the Magarey Medal in 1990 (to Scott Hodges), he played with dash and loved to sidestep opponents. Following his stint of AFL, he played for West Adelaide in the SANFL

Shane Tongerie

Guernsey number: 17
Crows debut: Round six v Brisbane, 1994
AFC games: 4
AFC goals: 3
Recruited from: Central District (SANFL).
DOB: February 10, 1971
Pick 18, pre-season draft 1994

Tongerie kicked three goals on debut for Adelaide after coming of the interchange bench, but struggled for consistency and departed West Lakes at the end of the 1994 season.

Andrew McLeod

Guernsey number: 23
Crows debut: round six v Melbourne, 1995
AFC games: 340
AFC goals: 275
Recruited from: Fremantle/Port Adelaide (SANFL)
DOB: August 4, 1976
1994 AFL Draft, traded by Fremantle for Chris Groom

One of the all-time greats, McLeod retired at the end of 2010 and is the current Indigenous and Crows games record holder. The dual-premiership player won almost every award possible during his illustrious career, including two Norm Smith medals, three Club Champion awards and five All-Australian crowns (captain in 2007). He finished runner-up in the Brownlow Medal in 2000 and third in 2001. Skilful and versatile, the popular McLeod played at both ends of the ground as well as in the midfield, regularly destroying opposition teams with his line-breaking speed and precise ball use.

Troy Bond

Guernsey number: 18
Crows debut: Round 1 v Sydney, 1996
AFC games: 58
 AFC goals: 51
Recruited from: Carlton
DOB: July 14, 1973
Traded from Carlton for pick 63 at 1995 national draft

A disillusioned Troy Bond proved to be a brilliant pick-up from Carlton, where he was dropped for the 1995 grand final after playing 36 games in two seasons with the Blues. The small forward, originally from SANFL club Port Adelaide, returned to South Australia as part of a three-way trade between the Crows, Geelong and Carlton to add speed, skill and game-breaking goals to the Adelaide forward line. Bond kicked four goals in the 1997 premiership win over St Kilda but injuries then restricted his last couple of seasons and he missed the 1998 flag success.

Ricky O’Loughlin

Guernsey number: 27
Crows debut: Round 1 v Brisbane Lions, 2000
AFC games: 9
AFC goals: 2
Recruited from: Port Adelaide Magpies
DOB: July 4th, 1979
Pick 51, national draft 1999.

From the Port Adelaide Magpies where he played in the 1999 SANFL premiership, O’Loughlin was a skilful half-forward with great pace. Although showing potential, the younger brother of Sydney star Michael had few opportunities and was unable to secure his place in the Crows side. Also spent a year on Sydney’s rookie list.

Graham Johncock

Guernsey number: 18
Crows debut: Round 1 v Western Bulldogs, 2002
AFC games: 212
AFC goals: 103
Recruited from: Port Adelaide
DOB: October 21, 1982

Became the second indigenous player (behind McLeod) to reach the 200-game milestone at Adelaide last season. Johncock started his career as a forward, topping the Crows’ goalkicking in 2003, but earned top-three finishes in the Club’s best and fairest award for his role in defence in 2006 and 2011. The highly-skilled, rebounding defender has recently returned to the forward line, kicking important goals against Port Adelaide and Geelong. One of only 10 Adelaide players to play 200 games, Johncock is the 10th most-capped Crow of all-time.

Ronnie Burns

Guernsey number: 5
Crows debut: Round 4 v West Coast, 2003
AFC games: 20
AFC goals: 23
Recruited from: Geelong
DOB: March 13, 1973
Traded by Geelong for Ben Finnin, 2002

The flashy forward pocket specialist came to Adelaide after a 134 game career (239 goals) with Geelong to add the “X-factor” around the goals for the Crows. Burns was a tough match-up for opponents and was a highly skilled footballer. In his first year at West Lakes he kicked 23 goals from 18 games but he played just two games the following year and retired at the end of 2004.

Jonathon Griffin

Guernsey number: 6
Crows debut: Round 1 v Essendon, 2007
AFC games: 41
AFC goals: 7
Recruited from: East Fremantle
DOB: January 14, 1986
Pick No.21 2005 Rookie Draft, traded to Fremantle for pick No.61 (Jarryd Lyons)

The Crows showed patience with the lanky West Australian, who played 50 games in seven years at the Club. Developed into a handy second ruckman, but received limited opportunities and requested a trade home to Perth for family reasons at the end of 2010.

Jarrhan Jacky

Guernsey number: 10
Crows debut: Round five v Fremantle, 2008
AFC games: 3
AFC goals: 1
Recruited from: Subiaco
DOB: April 5th, 1989
Pick No.30 in the 2007 AFL Draft

Made a promising start to his AFL career, playing three games in his debut season but was unable to maintain his form and returned to SANFL side Woodville West-Torrens. Endured several injuries and was unable to add to his games tally and was delisted at the end of 2010.

Jared Petrenko

Guernsey number: 23
Crows debut: Round 1 v Collingwood, 2009
AFC games: 43
AFC goals: 26
Recruited from: Woodville-West Torrens
DOB: December 12, 1989
Pick No.25 in the 2008 Rookie Draft

A revelation in season 2012, Petrenko has emerged as a barometer of the Adelaide team, setting the standard with his fierce attack on the ball and the man. Started his career as a defender/wingman, but has more recently found a home in attack, kicking goals and applying strong defensive pressure. Took over McLeod’s famous No.23 ahead of the 2011 season and was included in the Club’s ‘emerging leaders’ group over the summer.

Tony Armstrong (Sydney Swans)

Guernsey number: 38
Crows debut: Round 8 v North Melbourne, 2010
AFC games: 15
AFC goals: 1
Recruited from: NSW/ACT U18
DOB: 29/9/89
Pick No.58 in 2007 AFL Draft, traded to Sydney Swans for Lewis Johnston

The neat-kicking defender overcame injuries, homesickness and off-field issues to play 15 games in four seasons at West Lakes. Requested a trade back to his native New South Wales last October.

Richard Tambling

Guernsey number: 1
Crows debut: Round 1 v Hawthorn, 2011
AFC games: 10
AFC goals: 0
Recruited from: Richmond
DOB: September 12, 1986
Traded by Richmond for round-one compensatory pick (Nathan Bock) and pick No.51

Played 108 games for the Tigers before being traded to Adelaide at the end of 2010. Tambling can play a variety of roles and is looking to establish a place in the Crows defence in his second season at the Club.

Cam Ellis-Yolmen (current-listed player, yet to debut)

Guernsey number: 28
Crows debut: yet to debut
AFC games: 0
AFC goals: 0
Recruited from Woodville-West Torrens
DOB: January 28, 1993
Pick No.64 in the 2011 AFL Draft

Overcame a knee reconstruction in 2010 to impress with the Woodville West-Torrens reserves last season. At 188cm, 89kg, Ellis-Yolmen is a modern-day midfielder, possessing excellent athleticism and clean hands at the stoppages. Made his SANFL debut for the Eagles earlier this season.
