The Crows will spend two days in Port Augusta on February 27 and 28 for the 2017 Australia Post AFL Community Camp.

All 18 AFL Clubs will visit either a metropolitan location or a regional centre for the annual Community Camps, which are designed to allow players to meet fans and develop stronger links with the community.

As part of the 2017 Camp, Crows players will visit 34 schools in Port Augusta, Port Pirie and the Southern Flinders, reaching more than 6,500 children.

A highlight of the camp will be the super coaching clinic from 4:30pm-5.45pm on February 27 at Port Augusta’s Central Oval, where children will have the opportunity to meet the team, learn basic AFL skills and collect autographs.

Players will also be part of a dinner at Central Oval that evening raising funds for the local football clubs. 

In addition, the Club will visit corporate partners including Toyota, Foodland and Australia Post across the two days.  

Crows utility Curtly Hampton announced the 2017 Camp destination via a video message to fans on Friday. Hampton has a connection to the region with his partner growing up in Port Augusta.

“Hey Crows fans, I’m really excited to announce that for our 2017 Australia Post Community Camp we’ll be heading to Port Augusta,” Hampton said in his message.

“We know how much regional areas love their footy so it’s a great opportunity for me and the boys to be able to give back.

“While we’re up there we’re going to be very busy visiting 34 schools and more than 6,500 kids.

“Community Camp is something me and the boys always look forward to, so we’ll see you soon Port Augusta.”

Crows General Manager of Football Administration Phil Harper said the annual Community Camp was an important part of the men’s pre-season schedule.

“The Community Camp gives us an opportunity to give back to our thousands of regional supporters who support us so passionately,” Harper said.

“Regional South Australia has been an important recruiting ground for us in the past with some of our greatest players coming from the country.”

This is the 14th year that the Australia Post AFL Community Camp initiative has been conducted across Australia. The Crows have previously visited Murray Bridge, Fleurieu Peninsula, Barossa Valley, Yorke Peninsula, Port Augusta, Mt Gambier, Riverland, Naracoorte, Port Lincoln and Clare.
