Returning Crow Jessica Sedunary is planning on taking a bigger mentoring role with Adelaide’s young players in 2020.
The 2017 premiership player spent the first three seasons at Adelaide before moving to St Kilda last year and helping their young list through their first year in the AFLW.
Sedunary returned to South Australia when the COVID-19 pandemic hit and made the tough decision to remain home to be closer to family and friends and maintain her personal trainer job.
While she learned many leadership and mentoring skills at Adelaide, she was really able demonstrate them during her time with the Saints.
“I learned a lot when it came to helping create good culture and mentoring some of the younger girls and having more of a focus on the team and off the field,” Sedunary said.
“I was able to play a bigger role in that area because at St Kilda there is a lot of great talent, but also a lot of young girls who haven’t been in that environment before.
“I learned a lot at the Crows, and at the Saints I was able to refine those skills and put what I learned into action.
“Now I will be able to bring that back and help focus on how we perform as a team, how we get around each other and just really enjoying our footy.”
The forward hasn’t been able to train with the team much yet as she continues to rehabilitate from a broken fibula suffered in the SANFLW season, but she has enjoyed catching back up with her old teammates.
She also has loved getting to know the new players in the Crows side and there are a couple who she is particularly excited about working alongside.
“Munny (Hannah Munyard), I watched her out in the SANFL and I really liked the way that she played – she’s quite aggressive which I really like so I’m keen to have a kick with her,” Sedunary said.
“Teah (Charlton), I haven’t seen a lot of her but I’ve heard from Turbo (Nikki Gore) that she’s a jet so I’m excited to watch her play as well.
“I’m also keen to see how Ash (Woodland) goes because I played with her at Salisbury in season one.”
Sedunary and her teammates will officially begin pre-season on Wednesday, November 4.
