With a blend of champion veterans and exciting youngsters, the Crows are expected to push for a top-four berth this year, but Fremantle's defensive pressure made them look second rate on Sunday, going down by 56-points at Subiaco Oval.
Adelaide's typical run out of defence was stifled by Fremantle and Bock - one of the competition's best attacking defenders - was apologetic for the back half's lacklustre performance.
"Obviously it's a pretty disappointing result to start the year off and it's not what we came over here to achieve, that's for sure," Bock said.
"We were poor in a lot of areas that we pride ourselves on and it's something that we have to turn around quickly, coming up against a good defensive side in Sydney next week. Part of the game that let us down was being able to attack against a good defensive team so we just have to work that out."
One loss certainly won't see Adelaide pushing any panic buttons as they know that the style of play they want to employ works. But they need to execute it better and Bock is confident that can happen on Sunday against Sydney in the first home game of the season.
"What we've been doing has definitely worked in the past and we just have to get back to doing what we know we can do well. Doing that over the duration of four quarters is probably the key," he said.
"We always have some pretty good matches with Sydney and in the past we've had the better of them, so hopefully it can be the same result next week."
Bock was solid in defence for the Crows and even snuck forward to kick a goal just before half-time, and he feels he will only continue to get better as the season rolls on.
"I had a bit of a modified pre-season and didn’t actually start training out on the track until after Christmas," he said.
"I feel I've got a pretty good fitness base behind me, but just haven’t had the duration of actual footy training. I've got two practice matches and now this game behind me, so hopefully I will keep improving each week. I do feel reasonably fresh."
