Crouch talks DT
Brad Crouch details his round one AFL Dream Team
The self-confessed Dream Team tragic is so keen on the fantasy game he has jokingly admitted that living out his dream job as a professional footballer has significantly affected his DT ability.
"When I was at school I would get home and jump straight onto Dream Team...now that I'm training all day I have less time to make trades and do research for my personal AFL Dream Team!"
Brad Crouch details his round 1 Dream Team on afc.com.au below…
Defenders
Goddard, B
“He’s just about a lock every year. Didn’t have a fantastic year last year by his standards but I reckon this year he might be able to play some great footy like he did in 2010.”
Shaw, H
“He is always consistent down back and is a very popular defender that people include in their side.”
Deledio, B
“Like Shaw, he’s pretty consistent and I think the Tigers will improve this year so he’ll get better and score well.”
Broughton, G
“A lot of people pick him, I’ve had him in my side over the past couple of seasons ever since he was a rookie. He scores well and is reliable.”
Lake, B
“Lake is a bit of a risk in some ways, but being so cheap and his Dream Team performances in past years, I think he could be worth the risk.”
Bower, P
“I put Bower in, he is a risk, but I thought at $136,000 he’s a similar price to a lot of young players who won’t play, so he could be a bargain pickup. He’s got experience and showed good DT form 2-3 seasons ago so I’ve put him in there.”
Ellis, B
“I played against Ellis last year, he finds the ball well and is a good kick so I’d say if he plays reasonably consistent footy for them he should score a few points.”
Reserves
Smedts, B
“I’ve heard a lot about Smedts, he was injured for the majority of last year but has been playing well as a defender in the NAB Cup after originally being recruited as a forward. He’s named for round one so hopefully he can play plenty of games for Geelong this year.”
Bugg, T
“Tom knows how to find a lot of the football and I’d say I will probably sub him into my starting line-up next week for Ellis.”
Midfielders
Pendlebury, S (C)
“I have Pendlebury as my captain. He’s been a consistent performer over the last few years and you just know what you’re going to get from him each week.”
Boyd, M
“Again another consistent player who will score over 100pts every week for your team.”
Ablett, G
“He’s an absolute gun, he always gets plenty of disposals and kicks goals (hopefully not Rd 1 against the Crows though!).”
Dangerfield, P
“I’ve got Danger as my fourth mid, I thought about having four premium midfielders but then I thought Danger at $349,800 is almost worth it when you consider you can swap him forward.”
Coniglio, S
“He will find the ball and post some pretty good scores, I think he will get up over 100pts a few times this year. I played against him last year and he averaged around 135 DT points per game in the 2011 National U18 competition, so if he can play anywhere near that he’ll be a quality selection.”
Shiel, D
“Dylan Shiel would have to be about the best U18 player from 2011, if he didn’t go to GWS as a 17-year-old I reckon he would have been the number one selection in last year’s draft. He had his appendix taken out pretty recently and missed a bit of footy, but he’s going to be a gun. ”
Reserves
Pfeiffer, D
“Pfeiffer from Port is likely to play plenty of football, I’ve heard he had a very good pre-season and I don’t think many people will have him.”
Smith, C
“I played with Clay at Vic Country, he’s a good inside player and found a fair bit of the ball during the NAB Cup. His price should rise significantly this year.”
Ruck
Sandilands, A
“I went with big Sandilands in the ruck, most people either have Sandi or Dean Cox. I think he’ll have a big year despite missing games towards the end of last year and in the NAB Cup this pre-season.”
Kreuzer, M
“He’s very cheap after being injured last year and I think he will have a huge year with Carlton looking to go top four this year.”
Reserves
Giles, J
“Should play most games for GWS and is solid backup as one of my ruck reserves.”
Stephenson, O
“A mature age draftee from my home town North Ballarat, I’ve seen him play for years and I think he will go well at AFL level.”
Forwards
Franklin, B
“Buddy’s had a fantastic pre-season and is tipped for another huge year. He always kicks plenty of goals and can rack up the touches too.”
Pavlich, M
“I always have Pav in my team, he’s consistent and should play more forward this year which should work well for him as he’ll kick plenty of goals.”
Rioli, C
“Cyril will probably go into the midfield more this year, Hawthorn like to get the ball into his hands so he’ll get plenty of disposals, tackles and kick a lot of goals.”
Riewoldt
“I put Riewoldt in this year, I love him and have always had him but he cost me a bit last year with his poor scores. A lot of people have gone off him, but he’s cheap and I think he will be alright this year - I’m sticking by him!”
Hurley, M
“I put him in just after he signed his five year contract, Essendon have a big expectation on him to play good footy and I reckon he will have a big year up forward in an improving side.”
Porplyzia, J
“I’ve got Porps in my side, at $202,500 you would be silly not to have him. I think he will have a big year and kick a lot of goals. I told him he’s in my Dream Team so hopefully he helps me out and scores highly!”
Smith, D
“I’ve picked Devon Smith from GWS, he played some games in the NAB Cup where he scored over 100pts. I’ve played a lot of footy with him during juniors and Vic Country; and I think he’s going to be a quality player who finds lots of the ball. He has a strong body and kicks the ball a lot so that will help him score well and I’m tipping him to average over 90pts per game.”
Reserves
Cameron, J
“Jeremy is another North Ballarat boy, he takes huge marks and if he goes deep forward he will kick a lot of goals. He hasn’t been super consistent in the preseason, but I think GWS will stick with him. He could have some games that he really stands out.”
Couch, T
“I’ve heard a bit about him as a rookie, lots of people have him in their sides and I’ve heard he can get plenty of touches.”
