Young Broden Dennis models his game on his hero, the freakish Brett “Birdman” Burton.

And this Wednesday Broden, aged 11, is planning to lay a tackle that the Birdman won’t forget in a hurry.

Broden is the lucky winner of the Adelaide Crows Telstra AFL Community Camp competition.

The prize? His year six class will field a team to take on the Adelaide Crows at Centenary Oval this Wednesday February 7 at 11.30am.

When Broden’s Crows Nest Membership form was drawn last Friday from the pile of young Crows members on the Eyre Peninsula, the U12 Port Lincoln South forward was thrust into the spotlight and instantly became the most talked about student at the school.

Dad Brenton Dennis says his eldest son is very, very proud and has spent the weekend letting everyone know about it.

“He’s a fairly quiet lad but he has certainly been very eager to tell all his family and friends,” Mr Dennis said. “There will certainly be a large Dennis contingent at Centenary Oval on Wednesday afternoon. And as captain I think he’s hoping to sneak his younger brother Marcus on as well.”

Broden’s choice of football team was in never in question although his first Crows game is questionable – when his mum Tania was 7mth pregnant with him, or when he was aged 18mths.

The family makes the 700 plus kilometre trek to Adelaide at least twice a year and tries to see at least one game in Melbourne each year.

Parents Brenton and Tania own the local seafood restaurant “King Neptune” on Hallet Place which is ideally situated across the road from the hotel that Crows pair Mark Ricciuto and Simon Goodwin are financing.

“They’ve already been in, had a feed and signed the wall,” Brenton said.
