The clash of two developing Crows ruckmen – Ivan Maric and John Meesen – was a feature of the weekend’s round of SANFL games.

Maric lined up for the Port Magpies against Meesen, playing for Norwood, in last Friday night’s game at The Parade.

And Crows development coach Alan Stewart said he enjoyed watching the pair take each other on in a big match.

“It was really good to watch,” he said. “It was a very even contest and I thought both Ivan and John were good for their teams. We picked Ivan as our SANFL player of the round and he probably shaded John on the night, but both lads showed some really good signs.”

Stewart said nine Crows played in the SANFL (seven league, two reserves) and seven of the players made the clubs’ best player lists.

Richard Douglas, named as an emergency for the Crows last weekend, had another good game for Glenelg with some quality possessions in a losing team.

Luke Jericho played his first full game in defence for West Adelaide and had a solid performance, with 22 disposals and 11 marks.

And the best of the rest was Scott Stevens, who kicked three first half goals for Port Magpies against Norwood.
