Two men who played important roles with the Adelaide Football Club in its foundation year have listed similar stand-outs at the top of their “20 Greatest Crows Moments” lists.

Inaugural captain Chris McDermott and Adelaide’s first general manager, Bill Sanders, both rated the launch of the club’s name, colours, logo and guernsey near the top of the list and also believe the club’s first finals win over Hawthorn in 1993 was a major milestone.

They also agree on their high ranking of Mark Ricciuto’s 2003 Brownlow Medal win, the first game against Hawthorn and the club’s first trial game against Essendon.

But McDermott has thrown in some different moments to round out his top 20, including Wayne Carey’s arrival at West Lakes - “he was the game’s greatest player, coming to town” - and Phil Davis’s courageous mark against Fremantle in 2010.

Like many of the people involved with the 1997 premiership, Sanders has fond memories of the grand final street parade through Adelaide. “It was all about the fans,” he said.

The campaign to find the 20 Greatest Crows Moments was launched late last year as part of the celebrations to mark the 20th anniversary of the Adelaide Football Club’s first AFL game.

We have been collecting nominations from fans through our club website and social media channels - and have also asked some current and former Club identities to list their greatest moments.

In the next couple of weeks we will reveal the club’s top 20 and launch the voting page on www.afc.com.au and it will then be up to the supporters to compile their top 20 greatest moments.
