Young Crows named in trial squad
Adelaide could introduce up to three first-timers in its NAB Challenge match against Melbourne.
Patrick Dangerfield, rested last weekend, returns to the line-up but the Crows also named rookie Ricky Henderson, Will Young and Daniel Talia in a 29-man squad, to be reduced to 26 for the 4pm hit-out.
James Sellar (broken hand) is so far the only player out of last Friday night’s team from the Alice Springs clash with Collingwood.
Henderson, 21, earns his opportunity after developing his game in the SANFL with Central District since he was drafted as a rookie from country Victoria, where he was spotted at a basketball talent camp. He has played as a forward and at half-back with the Bulldogs.
Young, 19, was drafted at the end of 2008 and spent last season as a defender with SANFL club Norwood. And Talia, 18, was Adelaide’s first pick at last year’s national draft and impressed across half back in his first SANFL trial with the Panthers last weekend.
Adelaide trains on Friday morning from 10am at Max Basheer Reserve.
The 29-man squad is: Armstrong, Bock, Cook, Dangerfield, Davis, Doughty, Douglas, Edwards, Goodwin, Griffin, Gunston, Henderson, Hentschel, Jacky, Johncock, Mackay, McKernan, McLeod, Petrenko, Reilly, Rutten, Schmidt, Sloane, Stevens, Talia, S. Thompson, Tippett, Walker, Young.
