Adelaide coach Neil Craig has described the three-day training camp in Strathalbyn as an “exceptional” event for the club. After nearly 300 fans watched the final football training session on Wednesday at the town oval, Craig was enthusiastic about the trip and its impact on the playing group, who organised most of the camp.“It’s a great little town, the facilities are really good, the oval is great and it enables us to once again take AFL footy to the country which is really important, to represent not only our own club but the SANFL,” said Craig, who also highlighted a surprise visit from club patron Robert Gerard.“So you put all that together, plus the training and input of the players, it’s been a really fruitful three days.“It’s been strictly a footy camp … every activity we have done has been specific to playing the game and been orientated towards footy.“It’s just the opportunity to have a footy camp, get what we want out of it as a club, but also to bring footy to the country and regional areas where we have got a lot of supporters.”Craig said there would be no change to the training pattern when the players return to West Lakes on January 3.“The more football training we can do, the better off we will be,” he said. “So it will be business as normal when we come back.”And Craig does not expect any player to overindulge during the Christmas break.“That’s not an issue for us,” he said. “Our players understand the responsibilities they have and they have already demonstrated that to us with what they did over the eight or nine week break they had.”
