January 21, 1991: Fifty of Adelaide’s training squad endured a gruelling training camp based at Rapid Bay.

A 20km hike through a commando course on the first day took more than eight hours for teams to complete and tasks included towing a ute uphill and building a raft to sail across the bay. A team led by Andrew Jarman won the demanding challenge.

“It’s certainly been different but it’s also very beneficial from a lot of aspects,” said coach Graham Cornes. “The team building has been tremendous, there’s no doubt about that.

“It was a good opportunity for everybody to mix in that bit more and in our situation that’s do much more important than it would be for a club that’s been around for many years. They worked very hard but at the same time they also enjoyed it and they enjoyed it each others company.”

This year the Adelaide Football Club celebrates the 20th anniversary of its first AFL game for premiership points when it plays Hawthorn in the opening round - two decades after the Crows thumped Hawthorn by 86 points at Football Park.
