Delisted pair Will Young and James Craig will train with Adelaide over the pre-season with the hope of being re-drafted by the club in December’s rookie draft.

Young and Craig were both cut by the Crows earlier this month after injury-marred seasons.

Young, taken with pick No.72 in the 2008 national draft, was limited to two games in three seasons.

The 21-year-old battled ankle, knee and shoulder injuries during his time at West Lakes and start pre-season training on a modified program after breaking his fibula in Norwood’s semi-final loss to Central District.

List manager David Noble said Young would be given a chance to prove himself over the next few weeks.

“Will’s in the size-bracket of players that we don’t have a lot of, in the Tom Lynch and Lewis Johnston-type mould,” Noble told afc.com.au.

“He’s got that versatility where he can play forward or back.  He runs like a gazelle and could even play on a wing, so we’re keen to see more of what he can do.”

A persistent hamstring injury prevented Craig, 20, from playing a game in two seasons on the senior list.

The athletic 196cm ruckman recovered to play a handful of matches for North Adelaide late this season.

“’Craigy’ we haven’t seen a lot of, but like in the back-up ruck role,” Noble said.

“If we can get him through pre-season, he holds up and gets some strength through his hamstrings he might be a bit of a surprise packet.

“He’s got a great leap, so he can ruck but he’s also got some raw speed and could fall into a key post at either end.

“We still think James and Will have got something to offer.”

Young and Craig will both be present for the start of pre-season training on Monday, November 7.

Boom recruit Brad Crouch, who is ineligible to play AFL next season, will be the only player absent on day one.

Crouch, 17, will remain in Victoria until he completes his Year 12 exams in late-November.
