Backstroker Hayden Stoeckel won a bronze medal after leading out the Australian men’s 4x100m medley relay team.

James Magnussen powered home for Australia (3:31.58) to secure third place behind Japan and the United States.

Patty Mills scored 39 points to help Australia book an Olympic Games men's basketball quarter-final berth with an amazing 106-75 win over Great Britain last night.

The Boomers appeared to be heading for an embarrassing loss when they trailed by as much as 15 points during the third term but they dominated the rest of the contest and now are set to play the mighty US Dream Team in the quarter-finals.

"To play for your country on this biggest stage, the importance of that game was unbelievable, so to come away with a win - that's up there with the best," Mills said.

"That's what we play for, that's what I play for."

Australia's last medal hope at Wimbledon in the tennis was extinguished when mixed doubles pairing Stosur and Lleyton Hewitt went down to Great Britain's Andy Murray and Laura Robson 6-3 3-6 10-8.
