Stats that matter
Jason Porplyzia will play his 100th game against Richmond at AAMI Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
The Tigers play a high-possession game, ranking 1st in the AFL for handballs, total disposals and uncontested possessions. Brett Deledio has collected more disposals (330) than any other Richmond player, putting him in the top-10 possession-getters in the League this season. Deledio is also the best player in the competition at sending the ball inside his team’s forward 50m.
Ex-Carlton onballer Shaun Grigg is one of the architects of Richmond’s possession game. Grigg is ranked seventh in the competition for effective kicks (129), third in long kicks (72) and second in uncontested possessions (230).
Tony Modra holds the record for most Crows goals in a game against Richmond. The mercurial forward booted a Club record 13 goals in Adelaide’s round 16 win over the Tigers in 1993.
Shane Tuck and Trent Cotchin are Richmond’s leading ‘inside’ players. Tuck is ranked second in the League behind Patrick Dangerfield for hard-ball gets (86) and sixth in contested possession (165). Cotchin is also top-15 in both of these statistics.
Adelaide has won 19 of the 29 matches played between these two teams, but Richmond has taken the honours in the past two clashes.
Former teammates Sam Jacobs and Ivan Maric will go head-to-head for the first time this weekend. Jacobs and Maric are No.1 and No.2 in the competition, respectively, in hit-outs to advantage this season.
Jack Riewoldt is second in the Coleman Medal race, having slotted 35 goals in 12 matches this year.
News bites
In the Mix - AFL.com.au
"NATHAN Foley, Steven Morris and Tyrone Vickery missed the victory over Greater Western Sydney in round 12 because of injury but all are available to take on Adelaide this Saturday. The Tigers' season-long reluctance to make many changes to the line-up means they're unlikely to all make their way into the team at once. Vickery is likely to come in for Brad Miller or Brett O'Hanlon. Foley also is likely to come in but it's touch and go with Morris because the player he'd replace, Matt Dea, has done nothing wrong. Tall defender Jake Batchelor has been unconvincing but he might be saved by the threat posed by Adelaide key forwards Kurt Tippett and Taylor Walker."
