An exhibition of Ray Titus photos from the first 20 years of the Adelaide Football Club will open on Wednesday June 8 from 9.00am-12.00pm.

The ‘One Shot’ exhibition, featuring 90 outstanding photos from the past two decades, will be on display in the Club’s Westpac Centre from June 8 until the end of the football season.

Titus, nicknamed “One Shot” because of his reputation for great timing, was a photographer for The News for 33 years. He then joined The Advertiser in 1992 as a specialist sports photographer and retiring in March this year.

He has since agreed to work part-time for the Adelaide Football Club, taking behind-the-scene photos.

Ray has won countless awards for sport photography but in 1958 he also won a coveted Walkley Award - the highest honour in the Australian media - for a photograph of the dramatic hostage rescue and recapture of three prison escapees on the Birdsville Track. He is a Life Member of the AFL Media Association.

Through his insightful and skilful photography Ray has played an integral part in the recording of the Adelaide Football Club’s first 20 years. During that time he has been a respected and trusted friend of players, administration and staff. It was therefore considered appropriate to ask him to use some of his photographs in an exhibition covering those two decades as part of its 20-year anniversary.

Shortly afterwards Ray announced his retirement from The Advertiser and it was decided that this exhibition should also serve as a tribute to Ray in recognition of the special relationship he had with the Club.

The exhibition forms a unique and interesting new component of the popular tours of the football and entertainment centre which includes a museum, replica locker room, media centre, pools, gym and indoor training facility.

Experienced guides are able to give detailed background information to the pictures. It and the museum will also be open for general viewing at various other times. For information about tours and viewing times check this web site or contact Kim on 8440 6650.
