Humbled and honoured, Tony Modra finally received his Adelaide Football Club life membership on Saturday afternoon.

The quietly spoken Modra was with his wife Erica at the birth of their first child Hayley May when his award was announced at the season launch.

But the champion full forward was a special guest at the chairman’s function before the Fremantle clash.

Modra set out two goals at the start of his football career with Adelaide; one was to win a premiership, the other was to earn life membership with the club.

Famously unlucky not to have that premiership medal, Modra was moved by receiving life membership.

“I’d just like to thank the Adelaide Football Club board for determining me worthy of this and it’s a great honour and it’s something I’ll treasure for the rest of my life,” Modra said.

Now living the quiet life as a primary producer near Encounter Bay, Modra begins his days waking up to daughter Hayley May before checking his cattle stock.

“At the moment I’m waking up a couple of times a night for Hayley May for a feed which is good she’s healthy,” Modra said.

“Then first thing in the morning we go and check the cows, and they are breeding at the moment.”

Modra is still playing football in country South Australia with the appropriately named Keith Crows, still with the famous number six on the back.

“I’m still enjoying having a kick. We won a premiership last year - it was 25 years since they won their last one,” Modra said.

“I trained on Thursday night for the first time so I’m pretty sore at the moment.”
