Forward Taylor Walker says he’s focused on refining his tackling technique after being suspended for rough conduct for the second time this season.

Walker accepted a three-match ban for a heavy tackle on Richmond defender Steven Morris in round 14. This followed a two-game sanction for an overzealous tackle on Harry Taylor in Adelaide’s 50-point win over Geelong at AAMI Stadium in round seven.

As was the case earlier this season, the 22-year-old is using the enforced break as an opportunity to ramp up his training load.  He said he was putting special emphasis on his tackling.

“It’s definitely something I need to address,” Walker told Triple M.

“Our strength and conditioning coach, Nick Poulos, has a Rugby Union background and I’ve been working a fair bit with him over the past week.

“I’ll continue to work on my tackling with him and it’s something I’ve got to change.”

Despite the suspensions, Walker is enjoying a career-best season. The talented forward has improved his consistency and defensive pressure, and currently leads Adelaide’s goalkicking (37).

Coach Brenton Sanderson said he was confident Walker would be able to pick up where he left off he returned to the Crows line-up in round 18.

“He’s still training really hard. He hasn’t missed a beat and will come back fresh,” Sanderson said.

“Tackling is one element of his training program over the next two weeks. We’re making someone adjustments to Taylor’s technique, so that when he gets into that position he feels more comfortable.”
