State cricketer Cam Borgas took time out of the nets this week to get an insight into the inner workings of the Adelaide Football Club.
As part of an arrangement between the Crows and the SACA, Borgas completed a week of work experience at West Lakes, spending time with everyone from Football Operations Manager Phil Harper, to List Manager David Noble and Physical Performance Manager Stephen Schwerdt.
An avid Crows supporter, the Redbacks and Adelaide Strikers batsman said he’d gained valuable experience from his stint at the Club.
“I’ve had a week here to learn more about the sports administration side of things and understand how it all works, with a view to maybe doing a university course in sports admin,” Borgas told afc.com.au.
“There are probably nine of 10 players I’ve come across before in charity cricket matches and the likes. We (the Redbacks) also used to do a fair bit of work with Stephen Schwerdt seven or eight years ago, so there are a few familiar faces and everyone’s been very inclusive and welcoming.
“I’m a Crows man, so it’s made it a lot easier and more enjoyable to see how your footy team operates. I’ll certainly be keeping a close eye on proceedings for the rest of the season.”
Borgas will have an experience of a very different kind next week when he heads to the Netherlands to continue his ‘endless summer’ of cricket.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” Borgas said of the trip.
“It’s something different and it’s a good opportunity for me to improve my game.”
The work experience arrangement between the Crows and the SACA is reciprocal, meaning an Adelaide player will spend a week at Adelaide Oval later in the year.
“Hopefully, it will become a long-standing arrangement between the two parties,” Borgas said.
“I’ve found it really worthwhile and it’s given me a good indication as to how compatible I am to this sort of environment and a sports administration career in the future.”
