Adelaide’s new-look playing squad returned to pre-season today - the first under new senior coach Brenton Sanderson.

After a 45-minute introduction meeting, it was straight out to Max Basheer Reserve for a couple of hours of work in the heat.

"Today was meant to be an introduction day ... but the boys just went like cut cats,” Sanderson said.

"It's to be expected, I guess, with a new coach and new coaching group - they're going to try and impress as much as they can.”

The focus for a group of about 25 players - including new Crows Tom Lynch, Luke Brown, Lewis Johnston and Josh Jenkins - were back-to-back five-minute running tests.

Some sprints and a small amount of ball work were also on the menu for the main group.

Another group of players who are on the way back from post-season surgery or injuries also worked hard with fitness coach Matthew Bode.

Most of the players in this group should steadily move back into full training in the next few weeks with Sanderson hoping to have almost everyone available in the New Year.

Sanderson said the Club would take “little steps” and focus on the future as it prepared for the 2012 season.

"We're not going to talk about the past at all," Sanderson said.

"It's all about a blank canvas today. We have just come in with a new group, new coaches, a different attitude towards training and a new game plan ... we have started afresh.

"As much as I can, I won't reflect on what has happened here in the past, the focus will be on what is going to happen tomorrow."
