On Wednesday, Crows Daniel Talia and Sam Shaw will join the 21 other NAB Rising Star nominees of season 2012 in Melbourne for the crowning of the prestigious award.

In the lead-up to the event, afc.com.au looks at the facts and stats relating to Adelaide's Rising Star history.

One -
Daniel Talia is vying to become the first Adelaide player to win the Rising Star award. Another Crows defender, Andy Otten, came close to taking out the prestigious award when he finished runner-up to Brisbane Lions midfielder Daniel Rich in 2009.

$1.65 - Talia's odds with betting company sportsbet before the bookies paid out on the 20-year-old to win the 2012 Rising Star. He had come in from $81 in April.

Two - Talia is one of two Rising Star nominees at West lakes this season. Sam Shaw also received a nod in Round 21.

Three - Seasons Adelaide went without a nomination, between 2001 and 2003. Brent Reilly broke the drought in Round 16, 2004.

Three - the most nominations the Crows have had in a single season, in 2009 when Patrick Dangerfield, Taylor Walker and Otten all earned recognition.

Five - Adelaide is one of five clubs never to have produced a Rising Star winner. Collingwood (Nathan Buckley won it as a Brisbane player in 1993), Western Bulldogs/Footscray and newcomers Gold Coast and Greater Western Sydney round out the group. Brisbane Lions/Bears have produced three winners (Buckley, Chris Scott and Rich) - more than any other club. Hawthorn, Port Adelaide, St Kilda and Sydney have each produced two Rising Stars.

Seven -
of the 19 past Rising Star winners, seven have gone on to play in a premiership: Chris Scott, Ben Cousins, Michael Wilson, Byron Pickett, Adam Goodes, Sam Mitchell and Joel Selwood.

18 - Adelaide players have received nominations since the Rising Star’s inception. They are, in chronological order, Mark Ricciuto, Matthew Kluzek, Sean Wellman, Martin McKinnon, Andrew McLeod, Kane Johnson, Andrew Eccles, David Gallagher, Brett Burton, Ian Perrie, Brent Reilly, Kurt Tippett, Patrick Dangerfield, Andy Otten, Taylor Walker, Phil Davis, Talia and Shaw.

21 - A player must be under the age of 21 at January 1 of that year, and have not played more than 10 AFL games to the start of that season to be eligible for the award. Talia just scraped in this season, having played nine games in 2011. Suspension also makes a player ineligible. There are exceptions for certain offences that don’t result in missed games.

1993 -
Ricciuto was the first-ever Crow to receive a Rising Star nomination. ‘Roo’ got the nod in Round 16 in the award’s inaugural year, 1993. A young Nathan Buckley, who Ricciuto would go on to share a Brownlow Medal with, took out the Ron Evans Medal that year for the Rising Star that year.

2004 -
The last time a key-position player, Jared Rivers (Melbourne) won the award. The past seven winners have been midfielders/flankers: Dyson Heppell (2011), Dan Hannebery (2010), Daniel Rich (2009), Rhys Palmer (2008), Joel Selwood (2007), Danyle Pearce (2006) and Brett Deledio (2005).
