Yorke Peninsula Community Camp
Adelaide will be spending two days on the Yorke Peninsula next week as part of the AFL Community Camp.
The entire playing squad will be in the area on Monday and Tuesday, June 15-16.
The Telstra AFL Community Camp is part of a national program which has seen all 16 AFL Clubs in regional and remote communities across Australia, giving locals an opportunity to get close to AFL at the highest level.
This is the sixth year that the AFL Community Camp concept has reached far and wide across Australia. In the past the Adelaide Crows have been to Mt Gambier, the Riverland, Fleurieu Peninsula, Port Lincoln and the Barossa Valley.
The Adelaide Crows’ mini camp will involve free activities including two Super Clinics, school visits to reach more than 1300 local children, community visits to the local hospitals and aged care facilities as well as a Community Footy Forum for local coaches, players and medical trainers.
The Adelaide Football Club Junior Development team has been presenting the Foodland "Crows in Schools" program this week, visiting the schools in the region with their special guest Claude the Crow.
The camp will officially start Monday from 12.30pm with a number of school and community visits throughout the region. Please see the final page of this release for these details.
In the afternoon at both Kadina Football Club oval and Yorketown Football Club oval the Adelaide Crows will hold free Super clinics from 4.30-5.30pm where children in the region will have the opportunity to meet the stars of the game, learn the basic skills of AFL and have time to collect autographs or simply chat to their heroes. Children aged 5-15 years are welcome to attend. Bookings are essential and can be made by ringing Brad Haylock on 0438379405.
Following the clinics, barbeques will held at both venues by clubs within the Yorke Peninsula Football League. The cost will be $5 per person. To purchase tickets to attend the BBQ’s please contact your local Club.
Tuesday evening from 7.30pm selected players and coaching staff will present the Adelaide Crows Football Forum at both Kadina FC and Yorketown FC with Crows players, coaches and medical staff sharing ideas and knowledge with local sports officials from all sports. Crows players will also address players from the U15 and U17 Yorke Peninsula Association teams.
A highlight of the camp will be the opportunity of a lifetime given to the Yorke Peninsula Football Association’s best young football talent on Monday when players from the U15 and U17 representative sides are put through their paces by the Crows coaching staff at both Kadina and Yorketown ovals from 5.30-6pm.
As the Team for all South Australians, Crows captain Simon Goodwin says the players thoroughly enjoy the annual AFL community camp which gives them the opportunity to mingle with their fans in regional areas.
“It is a fantastic concept because it allows us to give back to our regional supporters, who make up 18% of our membership, and who support us so passionately,” Goodwin said.
“We enjoy the time away from AAMI Stadium where we can soak up the grass roots footy atmosphere.
“Team mate Bernie Vince (who comes from Stansbury) has already introduced many of us to the area but it will be great to bring the whole squad to the region.”
