Five things you didn’t know about Jason Porplyzia …

1. The name ‘Porplyzia’ is Ukrainian. Jason’s grandfather migrated to Australia in the Second World War.

2. The spelling of ‘Porplyzia’ differs within the family. Jason’s grandfather and grandfather’s brother disagreed on the English spelling of the surname, with Jason’s side of the family opting for a ‘Z’ and the other branch of the family tree spelling it with a ‘C’ (Porplycia).

3. Porps is a whiz in the kitchen and even makes his own ice cream.

4. He sits next to coach Brenton Sanderson at the front of the team bus on interstate trips. However, Porps hasn’t always been the ‘coach’s pet’. He only started sitting in the front row on bus trips because he became travel sick sitting in the middle or rear of the bus.

5. Porplyzia grew up supporting Hawthorn and idolised Jason Dunstall. Former Hawk and Crow Darren Jarman was another of his footy heroes.
