Adelaide has made a late change to its team to play Greater Western Sydney at Skoda Stadium this afternoon, with Tom Lynch called up to replace forward Kurt Tippett.

Tippett, who sustained his second concussion in three weeks in the win over Port Adelaide, joined the team in Western Sydney but the Club's medical staff ruled the star Crow out prior to the match.

Lynch will play his first game since round eight. Chris Knights will start as the substitute.

On Friday, it was revealed promising recruit Luke Brown would make his AFL debut against the Giants.

Brown, 19, became a Crow in trade week last October as part of the deal that also netted the Club fancied teenager, Brad Crouch. From Norwood, the skilful utility will become the sixth player to debut for Adelaide this season.

Coach Brenton Sanderson said Brown was likely to line-up in defence against the Giants.

“Luke is more of a lockdown defender with really safe skills. He’s got great speed and agility and we like the balance he has of attack and defence,” Sanderson told afc.com.au.

“Our defence will be quite young, with Daniel Talia, Sam Shaw, Brown and, maybe, a Brodie Smith all playing back there. Ben Rutten and Brent Reilly provide some experience, but it’s quite a young, dynamic and exciting defence and a bit of a snapshot of the future.

“Those guys will come up against the young Giants forwards, like Jeremy Cameron, Jon Patton, Israel Folau and Devon Smith … it’ll be a game within a game.”

Brown is one of four changes to the team to play GWS. Small forward Ian Callinan returns after a one-week absence with a corked calf, while utility Josh Jenkins has been called up to replace the injured Shaun McKernan (jaw).

Tippett, Balfours Showdown debutant Tim McIntyre and veteran defender Michael Doughty, who will miss the match to recuperate from a neck complaint as well as spend time with his wife and newborn son, Max, are the players to make way.

“Tim didn’t do anything wrong and it’s disappointing for him because he’s waited 23 years for the opportunity and only got one game,” Sanderson said.

“But he loved it and we were happy with how he played. He kicked two goals, but Ian Callinan is fit and comes back in. Tim probably just has to go back to Sturt and play well. Now, that he’s got a taste of AFL I’m sure he’ll be even hungrier.

“And ‘Dogga’ (Doughty) was always going to stay in Adelaide for the birth, but he’s also been carrying a neck injury for the last 2-3 weeks, so it’s a good opportunity for him to be able to give his neck a chance to recover and also spend time with Sara and Max.”

Graham Johncock will play for the Port Magpies on Sunday, but Sanderson said the versatile veteran was nearing a return.

“Graham’s not far away. We’re just building his match fitness, so he’s probably got another week with the Port Magpies,” he said.

“We hope to see him back soon. The advantage Brown has is that he’s played a lot of footy, as well as being in good form. We’re just waiting for Graham to get his fitness up to a level that allows him to play a full game at AFL level.”
