Fremantle has broken through for its first win of the season with a 20-point victory that extended a wasteful Adelaide's tough start to its 2020 campaign.

The Dockers led by just one point at three-quarter time but pulled away in the last quarter to record a 8.6 (54) to 4.10 (34) triumph – the first of Justin Longmuir's tenure as senior coach.

Adelaide won plenty of the footy in the midfield, dominating the clearance count 24-17. The Crouch brothers shared 51 disposals (25 for Brad, 26 for Matt on his recall to the senior side), while Brodie Smith (18 disposals) gave plenty of drive off half-back.

The Crows' profligacy in front of goal for the first two-and-a-half quarters almost defied belief, with just one goal from nine attempts.

It took a classy snap from Billy Frampton to break the drought with five minutes remaining in the third term, before Tom Lynch and then McAdam followed suit to level the scores just before the last change.

Both sides remain in Queensland for their round six games. The Dockers host St Kilda at Metricon Stadium while the Crows take on West Coast at the Gabba.
