Another Taylor to Geelong?
The Cats have thrown their hat in the ring to secure Greater Western Sydney's tough ball-winner Taylor Adams.
Adams, who grew up in Geelong and played for the Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup club, wants to return to his home state.
Adams' manager, Winston Rous from Phoenix Management Group, told News Limited he expected a decision to be made over the weekend.
Collingwood, Richmond and Melbourne are also keen on the 20-year-old, with suggestion a Magpie deal could involve Heath Shaw heading north to the Giants.
The Cats have already decided not to keep Paul Chapman, James Podsiadly and Josh Hunt while Joel Corey could retire.
The Tigers like Chapman, as do Carlton and Essendon, while there has been early interest in Podsiadly.
Savage love
Carlton and the Brisbane Lions are among the clubs keen to add Shane Savage to their forward ranks, News Limited reports.
Savage, 22, was overlooked for this year's Grand Final, and Hawthorn has told the small forward he has the club's blessing to look for a new home.
Savage remains contracted at the Hawks until the end of 2014.
Betts off
To West Lakes. Eddie Betts will be unveiled as a Crow on Saturday morning after Carlton on Friday chose not to match Adelaide's offer, believed to be worth $2million over four years.
Betts will speak in Melbourne about his decision and what he hopes to achieve in the state in which he was born.
The signing was a coup for the Crows, who need to find creative ways to improve their list after being stripped of draft picks for rounds one and two of next month's NAB AFL Draft following the Kurt Tippett affair. They had to fend off a move for Betts from North Melbourne.
New Docker Colin Sylvia (from Melbourne) and Port Adelaide recruit Matt White (from Richmond) were Friday's other confirmed free agency moves.
Buddy long process
The monster nine-year, $10million deal put to Franklin by the Swans won't go ahead until the AFL has finished examining the offer. However, that hasn't stopped the Swans from robustly defending the criticism coming from other corners of the footy world.
At Friday night's club best and fairest, outgoing chairman Richard Colless said he was "genuinely lost for words" over the criticism of the Swans' cost of living allowance (COLA).
Bob Skilton medallist Jarrad McVeigh argued the COLA was still badly needed.
The AFL says it will advise the respective clubs and the wider football public when the review of the deal was finished.
Other news
Departures for Dale Thomas and Heath Shaw appear imminent after the pair decided not to attend Collingwood's best and fairest on Friday night. Thomas is expected to join Carlton as a free agent in the coming days. Shaw's suitors include Essendon, Melbourne, Geelong, Hawthorn, Carlton and Greater Western Sydney.
The beleaguered Saints have offered Nick Riewoldt a one-year contract extension, News Limited reports. The new deal comes after an approach for Riewoldt by Collingwood, led by president Eddie McGuire. It also comes one day after the Saints were forced to deny coach Scott Watters had been sacked. Watters' dumping was suggested by former club president Andrew Plympton at a function.
Meanwhile, North Melbourne is leading the race for Nick Dal Santo's services after the Saint star met with the Kangaroos' leadership group last week.
The ins and outs are set to continue at the Gabba, with Richmond defender turned forward Luke McGuane hoping to complete a move to the Brisbane Lions as an unrestricted free agent.
The Crows and Power will compete for Lion Jared Polec's signature, while Lions defender Justin Clarke is set to buck the trend of Gabba exits by signing a three-year extension, as reported by AFL.com.au.
