Three Crows were awarded coaches’ votes in Balfours Showdown XXXV at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.
Young midfielder Brad Crouch continued his impressive run of form. The skilful 19-year-old earned three votes after amassing 28 possessions, eight clearances, six marks and five tackles in Adelaide’s heartbreaking four-point loss.
Crouch (13 votes) finished runner-up to Port Adelaide match winner Chad Wingard (16 votes) in the voting for the Showdown Medal.
Patrick Dangerfield, who kicked 4.0 from 17 touches, was also awarded three votes in his return from a sprained AC joint. Dangerfield (60 votes) is level with Brownlow Medallist Dane Swan in eighth place on the overall AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year award leaderboard.
Playing his first game for the season and only second for the Club, forward Lewis Johnston also collected a vote. Johnston presented strongly and finished with 4.1 from 14 possessions and seven marks.
Wingard, who kicked 5.0 from 24 disposals, earned a perfect 10 votes from Brenton Sanderson and Ken Hinkley, while Power captain Travis Boak received eight votes for his strong finish. Hamish Hartlett (three votes) and Kane Cornes, who tagged Richard Douglas, took out the remaining votes.
There is a new overall leader in the award, with Sydney co-captain Kieren Jack leapfrogging Gold Coast skipper Gary Ablett after collecting maximum votes in the Swans’ win over the Western Bulldogs. Jack (90) is five votes clear of Ablett (85), while his Sydney teammate Dan Hannebery is in third place (70 votes).
