Tom Lynch was the second-best player on the ground at the MCG on Friday night according to the coaches.
Lynch, who collected six votes from Brenton Sanderson and Nathan Buckley, kicked four goals from 22 possessions and also took an equal-game high 11 marks. The hard-working forward’s four-goal haul moved him to the top of Adelaide’s goalkicking this season (24). He also leads the Club in marks, with 97 from 12 games – ranked 14th in the AFL.
Star Magpie Scott Pendlebury earned a perfect 10 votes. Pendlebury was the dominant player in Collingwood’s 27-point win, amassing 42 possessions, eight clearances and two goals.
Young midfielder Jarryd Lyons was the only other Crow to receive recognition from the coaches. The 20-year-old slotted four goals from 17 possessions to collect his first coaches’ vote (one).
Collingwood midfielders Dane Swan (five), Luke Ball (three) and Steele Sidebottom (two) and key forward Travis Cloke (three) shared the minor votes.
Gold Coast captain Gary Ablett (75 votes) remains in first place in the AFL Coaches Association Champion Player of the Year award, while Pendlebury has moved into second spot on 64 votes. Adelaide onballer Patrick Dangerfield, who sprained his AC joint in the loss to Collingwood, is fifth on 57 votes.
