The Crows will recall five key players for Friday night’s clash with Carlton at AAMI Stadium.
Rory Sloane, Daniel Talia and Ian Callinan will return after missing the game against Geelong. Jared Petrenko (shoulder) and Sam Shaw (knee) have overcome injuries and will also play in the Club’s final hit-out before round one.
Coach Brenton Sanderson said the match against Carlton would be a full-scale dress rehearsal for the start of the season proper.
“By the end of this round, we should be ready to pick our best team for round one,” Sanderson said on Tuesday.
“Sam Shaw and Jared Petrenko will certainly come back. They haven’t played any footy (this pre-season) yet, but they’ll play at least a half on Friday night. We’ll also bring back Daniel Talia, Rory Sloane and Ian Callinan, who were all pretty much rested last week.
“I’m not sure who drops out yet – we haven’t got that far. We’ll look at team balance and who needs the minutes. Most of our guys outside of Shaw and Petrenko will have had at least two games after this week and that was always our plan.”
Twelve players sent home with a stomach bug on Monday are expected to play against Carlton.
“All the boys were back today,” Sanderson said.
“They went home yesterday violently ill, but that’s not an excuse for Saturday’s game. They weren’t sick during the game, they were sick after it. It was a 24-hour bug … they trained fully today and they’ll be fine.”
