Young Crow Aidan Riley has undergone surgery to repair a fracture in his right fibula.
Riley sustained the injury in an attempt to tackle in the opening three minutes of Adelaide’s clash with West Coast at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night. The tough onballer was immediately substituted out of the match and taken to hospital for scans.
The injury is expected to sideline Riley for at least 12 weeks, ruling him out of the remainder of the 2013 season. Coach Brenton Sanderson said it was an unfortunate setback for the 21-year-old, who was playing only his second game of the AFL season.
“It’s really disappointing for Aidan,” Sanderson said.
“He waited a while for his opportunity and played well after coming into the team last week.”
Midfielder Bernie Vince suffered a concussion after being slung to the ground in a tackle midway through the final quarter. Vince didn’t return to the field and will have a light start to the week ahead of Friday night’s match against Collingwood at the MCG.
Sam Kerridge (knee soreness) and Sam Shaw (illness) didn’t play in the SANFL, but both are expected to be available this weekend. Brodie Martin is a chance to return from an ankle injury this week.
