Crows Bernie Vince and Brent Reilly were on hand to present premiership medals to the winning Indulkana team in the Far North West Sports League Football Grand Final on September 7.
Stewart Schaber and Intjalki Brumby each kicked five goals to guide Indulkana 13.3 (81) to a 12-point win over Tjurma 10.9 (69). Abel Miller also bagged five goals in the losing Tjurma side.
Stewart Schaber and Intjalki Brumby, who slotted two goals apiece in the first quarter, gave Indulkana a handy break at quarter time. Although only having the one goal at quarter time, Tjurma displayed a great sense of footy knowledge, using ball movement and the wind to their advantage.
The second term saw the two powerhouse teams go goal for goal, kicking three goals each. Tjurma’s second-quarter fightback was led by experienced head Abel Miller.
In the third quarter, Tjurma displayed a never give up attitude, keeping Indulkana to only two goals.
Stanley Windy fired up his Tjurma teammates at the three-quarter time break and the team responded, playing an unforgettable first 10 minutes of the term.
Abel Miller took control, adding two more goals to put Tjurma in front.
But Indulkana responded quickly. The returning Kupa Henry-Whiskey and Matthew Lynch didn’t allow any play beyond their half-back line, and Schaber and Brumby goaled again to put Indulkana back in front and secure the Club’s first-ever FNWSL Football premiership.
The game was played in good spirits with Indulkana loving every minute of their win, and Tjurma gracious in defeat.
