Adelaide captain Nathan van Berlo can accept a reprimand for striking Brisbane Lions midfielder Tom Rockliff during the second quarter of Saturday’s match at the Gabba.

Contact was made when van Berlo attempted to dispose of the ball after being tackled by multiple Lions opponents. The incident, which attracted 80 demerit points, wasn’t serious enough to constitute a suspension.

Van Berlo also has a six-year good record, meaning he can accept a reprimand and 45 points towards his future record with an early plea.

The incident was assessed as negligent conduct (one point), low impact (one point) and high contact (two points). This is a total of four activation points, resulting in a classification of a Level One offence, drawing 80 demerit points and a reprimand.

Van Berlo’s existing good record reduces the penalty by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 60 demerit points. An early plea reduces the sanction by 25 per cent to a reprimand and 45 points towards his future record.
