Patrick Dangerfield and Scott Thompson proved you can’t keep champions down against the Brisbane Lions on Saturday. The pair was among Adelaide’s leading Dream Team performers in conditions not conducive to big scores at the Gabba in Round Two.
The biggest team score of the round in the Adelaide Football Club’s private league was 2166 by Shaun L. But this was not enough to overtake our league leader Marc’s Bacon Persona, who scored 2108 points for a total of 4105 after two rounds. He ranks 1,114th in the overall AFL Dream Team competition.
Don’t forget prices change after a player’s third match, so in many cases this is your last week to trade in or out before values skyrocket or plummet.
Adelaide’s leading-point scorers in Round Two:
Scott Thompson, 113 points
$541,200 (MID)
Lions tagger Andrew Raines switched between Thompson and Dangerfield, allowing both to rack up possessions at different stages of the game. Thompson responded to a quiet game against Essendon, collecting 31 possessions, three marks and also laying five tackles. Surprisingly, the reliable Crow is only owned by 16,000 DT coaches, so is still a unique pick in your midfield.
Josh Jenkins, 100 points
$316,100 (FWD/RUC)
Far too big and strong for opponent Ryan Lester, Jenkins provided a strong target in attack. The athletic Crow hauled in a game-high 12 marks and kicked 2.2, including a crucial goal to give Adelaide the ascendancy in the final quarter. Averaged 78.5 points in his first two games this season and has dual-positions status. More than 11,000 coaches nation-wide have jumped on the reasonably-priced big man.
Rory Sloane, 100 points
$470,100 (MID)
Often regarded as the third musketeer in Adelaide’s onball brigade, Sloane was instrumental when the going got tough on Saturday. Switching between a wing and half-forward, the uncompromising Crow picked up 22 possessions and a massive 11 marks. He also slotted 1.1. Sloane has scored a total of 188 DT points so far this season – equal-first at the Club with Thompson.
Patrick Dangerfield, 95 points
$525,000 (MID)
Dangerfield also went a way towards repaying the faith of nearly 50,000 Dream Team coaches at the Gabba. The game-breaker was still below his possession average of last season, but showcased his ability to collect points quickly with two match-defining goals in the last quarter. He finished the day with 23 touches, five tackles, two marks and 2.1.
Luke Brown, 74 points
$147,700 (DEF)
The small defender recorded the highest-possession game of his short career against the Lions. After towelling up opponent Ash McGrath, who was subbed out of the game in the third quarter, Brown was free to win more of his own footy. With his price set to rise after his third game of the season next week, Brown should deliver a nice return for his DT owners and based on current form has good job security.
Brad Crouch, 62 points
$108,500 (MID)
The talented midfielder impressed on debut, collecting 18 touches, three tackles and three marks. Eleven of Crouch’s possessions were handballs, which kept his score down, but he has the ability to win the ball in an unassuming manner in close and at $108,000 is a steal for your midfield. Will only get better – the 52,000-plus DT coaches who have picked him can’t be wrong!
