Adelaide Chairman Rob Chapman has provided an update on the Club's Constitution in his latest address to members.

We take this opportunity to advise that the annual meeting of Club Members of the Adelaide Football Club will be held at the Westpac Centre at AAMI Stadium on Thursday 12 December at 5.30pm. The Club Members' meeting will cover a variety of issues to do with membership and will run for approximately one hour. All 2013 Captain's Club, Gold and AFC Premier Members are invited to attend.

As you are probably aware, the Adelaide Football Club is finalising the detail around moving to a more independent model with the actual license to play in the AFL competition poised to revert back to the Club from the South Australian National Football League.

You may also be aware that it has taken some considerable time to complete this process. By way of a brief update, we are now very close to finalising several agreements that are necessary to accompany our independence. These include a new license to occupy at Adelaide Oval, a new agreement for our home at West Lakes (and continued use of this precinct), a new License Agreement with the AFL – and importantly, a new Constitution.

The main purpose of this correspondence is to outline our transition to that new Constitution.

An important point to make firstly is that the new Constitution provides for up to two member nominees to be appointed to the Adelaide Football Club Board from 2015 and onwards, which is a very positive and inclusive change to our Constitution.

Normally, at this time of year we would call for member nominations to our Board. However, we have consulted extensively with the South Australian Football Commission on how best to transition through this year's AGM, to the new Constitution. It was decided that at this point in time, it is the Commission who retain the right to appoint our Board, and after taking legal counsel on how best to effect this process of transition it has been determined that two existing board members be designated member elected, and that both of these spots will be subject to member nomination next year.

For interest, the three year terms for Ms Deborah Miller and Mr Greg Moulton are expiring, as is the casual (one year) appointment of Ms Kate Gould, who replaced member nominee Nigel Smart in a casual vacancy role earlier this year.

We will keep you up-to-date with the progress on all of this, including the documentation in the weeks ahead.
