The Crows have finalised their 2014 playing squad, selecting four rookies on Wednesday.
Adelaide selected classy West Australian forward Charlie Cameron with its first pick at No.7, and pounced on Sturt ball winner James Battersby when he was still available at No.24.
Cameron, 19, is a small forward, who plays a physical brand of football and displays an appetite for the contest. His ability to apply enormous defensive pressure to the opposition is a feature of his game. He has clean hands and leg speed.
An All-Australian for at the Under-18 National Championships, Battersby is a small defender/midfielder with excellent vision and use of the ball by hand and foot. He’s already played at senior level with Sturt, where his great assets included composure and game sense.
With their third pick (No.40 overall), Adelaide selected Oakleigh Chargers defender Jake Kelly.
The son of former Collingwood defender Craig, Kelly is a left-footed medium defender, who provides excellent rebound for his team. The 18-year-old can match up on taller and smaller opponents. He competes well in the air.
The Crows called North Adelaide forward Alex Spina with their final pick (No.52) in the Rookie Draft.
Spina is a medium forward with clean hands and excellent game sense. He reads the play well and shows good composure when the ball is in his hands. The 18-year-old has excellent vision and is smart around goals. He can also go through the midfield when required.
Cameron, Battersby, Kelly and Spina join promising ruckman Jack Osborn as rookies at Adelaide. Former basketballer Osborn, who is on the Category B Rookie List, was the only 2013 rookie retained by the Club.
The Pre-Season Draft was also held on Wednesday, with Greater Western Sydney claiming former Sydney Swan Jed Lamb with the first and only pick in the meet.
