Bob Campbell, an original Board Director of the Adelaide Football Club and former Chairman, passed away on Sunday, aged 81.
A Life Member of the SANFL, Glenelg and the Adelaide Football Club, Campbell joined the Crows Board in 1991, the Club’s first season in the AFL.
He replaced inaugural chairman Bob Hammond in 2001 and served in this position for three years. He remained on the Board in 2004, when former chief executive Bill Sanders was appointed Chairman.
Crows chairman Rob Chapman said Campbell’s influence on the Club through its first 14 years, after long service in the SANFL, underlined his contribution to South Australian football.
“The Board of the Adelaide Football Club and the entire Adelaide Football Club community are saddened to hear of Bob’s passing, after a long illness,” he said. “Bob played a major role in the establishment of the Club, a wise and experienced football person with business expertise at a time of great change.”
Inaugural Crows coach Graham Cornes remembered Campbell as a “great man”.
“Bob was a successful businessman with a great manner in that he was modest and had an unassuming air about him,”” Cornes said. “He was very capable.”
Adelaide players will wear black armbands in Saturday’s game against Fremantle at AAMI Stadium.
