The Gold Coast SUNS will limp into next weekends match against Port Adelaide at Aami Stadium following a bruising match against Melbourne at Metricon Stadium last night.
Alex Sexton was assisted from the field during the final quarter of the Demons encounter in significant discomfort after injuring his shoulder in a melee, Coach Guy McKenna confirming the promising teenager had been transported to hospital with a dislocated AC joint adding that Steven May also in doubt for the South Australian trek.
“Young Alex has done an AC joint, so he’s in some doubt, Sam Day, tight hamstring so I think he is little or no show for next week.” McKenna said.
Just a week after celebrating his return to top flight AFL, Nathan Bock’s season appears to be over.
The former All Australian representative had a 40cm tibial nail, placed in his leg after he suffering a serious leg injury during the Club’s Round 6 match against Fremantle at Metricon Stadium last year.
“The Bock experiment, I think we were probably trying to next week, but he’s obviously very ginger and sore, so we will book him into the surgeon and get that nasty rod out.”
While the rod has certainly served it’s purpose and assisted in Bock making a full recovery, it’s now causing considerable aggravation and while the surgery to remove the nail will end his 2013 campaign, it will leave him free to start preparations for a pain free 2014 campaign with the Gold Coast.
“It’s sad that he cant finish the year out, but it starts his preparation for next year that’s for sure.”
