The InterContinental Adelaide has taken its support of the Crows to new heights.
This week, the inner-city hotel will be badged with the traditional Crows hoops and a giant number 19 to symbolise the Club’s 19th Man. Abseilers have been hired to apply the enormous decal, which is 18.2 metres in height. It’s expected to take up to two days to complete.
The navy, red and gold-coloured decal, which overlooks the River Torrens, will give the Crows a strong visual presence in the Adelaide Oval precinct.
The number 19 at the five-star InterContinental Adelaide is the first of many 19’s the Crows hope to see pop up around Adelaide, and in particular the CBD, as the clock counts down to the inaugural AFL game at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, March 29.
‘Crowify Your Business’ is a competition giving businesses the opportunity to show their true colours at the start of the season with the best-dressed receiving a $10,000 advertising package.
Individuals may also enter by dressing up their homes in blue, red and gold. The winning entry in this category will receive a behind-the-scenes match-day experience at Adelaide Oval in 2014.
Intercontinental Adelaide Commercial Director Jakki Temple Govan said the Intercontinental is on the doorstep of elite football’s arrival in the city.
“The InterContinental Adelaide has a direct connection, via the new footbridge, and is at the heart of all that is AFL in Adelaide, and we will be launching an outdoor pop up bar for Showdown visitors and guests,” she said.
“Having had a strong relationship with the Crows over the years, the InterContinental Adelaide is excited about visitors to the city over this inaugural football season, and is encouraging its 280 plus staff to show their colours on Showdown day and throughout the season.”
Adelaide Football Club Chief Operating Officer Nigel Smart said the ‘Crowify’ competition encouraged the Adelaide business community to be part of the fanfare in the lead up to the opening game at Adelaide Oval.
“Traditionally during finals month people have dressed their businesses to show support, passion and to be part of the excitement of a grand event,” Smart said.
“Now the Crows want businesses in Adelaide to decorate their shop fronts and establishments, to support the first few games at Adelaide Oval.
“Colour, excitement and innovation are the keys in winning the $10,000 prize.
“We would like to thank the Intercontinental Adelaide for leading the charge and getting into the AFL spirit.”
To be in the running, business and individuals are asked to get ‘Crowified’ and take a photo of their home or business, upload it to Twitter, Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #crowified. Download your own 19th Man decal pack
The competition closes on Sunday, April 20. Winners judged Monday April 21.
