Adelaide’s Fantasy output reflected the overall disappointment from Sunday night’s loss to Carlton at the MCG. Many of the team’s usual Fantasy leaders were well down, but a trio of Crows still managed to crack the 100-point barrier.
Rory Laird ($376,098) topped the Fantasy table for Adelaide with 104 points from 28 possessions and 10 marks against the Blues. It was Laird’s second-best Fantasy total of his career behind his 108-point performance from Round 14 against Gold Coast last year. Laird earned his reputation as a miserly defender in his debut season, but has shown great versatility in 2014 with roles up forward and through the midfield. The 20-year-old could be worth a punt as a tempting mid-priced defender, particularly if he can continue his rich vein of form.
Evergreen veteran Scott Thompson ($494,898) showed his class once again on Sunday night, amassing a team-high 30 possessions and five tackles to notch an impressive 102 Fantasy points. ‘Thommo’ has averaged 109 points in his last three games, and has reached the Fantasy ton five times already this season to prove he still has plenty of good footy ahead. Fantasy coaches looking for a point of difference should seriously consider the 31-year-old, given he is owned by less than two per cent of the Fantasy community. A player of Thompson’s quality will not stay below $500k for much longer.
Eddie Betts ($306,493) rose for the occasion against his old side, bagging four goals from 13 possessions with four tackles to post a handy 82 points on Sunday night. Betts’ Fantasy form has been difficult to read this season due to his team-oriented role and tendency to give off goals to teammates. However, with scores of 90 and 82 in the past fortnight, the 27-year-old could be a bargain buy for shrewd Fantasy coaches this week. The exciting goalsneak has already trimmed $16k off his starting price and would be the perfect addition for any side requiring a quick cash injection.
Another value Crow in Brodie Martin ($193,329) has also shown some fine Fantasy form in Adelaide’s past two outings. Martin scored 75 points against Collingwood and backed it up with an 80-point total at the ‘G on Sunday night from 20 touches, four marks and five tackles. The 25-year-old has worked tirelessly to earn a spot amongst the Crows’ best 22 and will be a popular trade-in option this week at such a tempting price. Martin has already swelled by $43k in value so far this season, so Fantasy coaches must move quickly on the defender to make the most of their money.
