Reigning Commonwealth Games gold medallist Annette Edmondson led the Redline Classic cycling event through the busy streets of Adelaide on Monday morning.

Crows Ambassador Edmondson, who also won silver at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games earlier this year, showed the way as the peloton of over 20 riders made its way towards the Adelaide Hills.

The Redline Classic will cover 411 kilometres in the three-day event.

On the opening day, the riders will climb the roads of Clarendon, Kangarilla, Meadows and Strathalbyn before finishing in McLaren Vale (145km) at about 3pm.

Day Two will provide more stunning views of the Fleurieu Peninsula, as the riders cover 128 kilometres in the route from McLaren Vale to Victor Harbor and back again.

The final day of the Redline Classic will see riders return to Adelaide via Meadows and Lobethal finishing at the Watermark Hotel, Glenelg at 3pm.

Retired professional road cyclist Patrick Jonker, who represented Australia twice at the Summer Olympics, in 1992 and 1996 and winner of the 2014 Tour Down Under - will set the pace on each day.

Each rider has raised funds in the lead up to the race in support of the Crows Foundation with last year’s ride raising more than $15,000.

This is the fourth year the Crows Foundation has held a Redline Classic cycling event to help raise funds for the official charity of the Adelaide Football Club.

The Crows Foundation has raised and donated more than $1m for children in need since its inception in 2005.

Applications are now open to become a 2015 charity partner of the Crows Foundation.

The Crows Foundation will grant up to $100,000 in total to three successful SA children's charities in 2015.
