DESPITE back-to-back best on ground performances, Adelaide midfielder Matthew Wright isn't getting carried away with his form.
After a patchy 2013 season, Wright has started 2014 with a pair of eye-catching NAB Challenge displays; picking up 29 possessions against Carlton on Monday night after amassing 36 against Port Adelaide on February 16.
The 24-year-old was used as a run-with player in 2012 and at times in 2013 and put last year's inconsistent form down to his struggle to up the ante offensively.
He said the key to transitioning from a defensive role to one with greater freedom was his mindset and claimed his early 2014 form was just the beginning.
"I've been fortunate enough to play a bit more midfield with some of the boys who didn't play last week and then obviously got the opportunity again last night," Wright said on Tuesday.
"I was in that run-with role early 2012 and then did a bit of that in 2013 and then they wanted to play me just as a genuine mid, but I probably didn't handle the change.
"There's going to be different times in games where I'm going to have to run with someone and then play as an offensive midfielder, so it's just that mindset of being able to change quarter to quarter.
"It's just the start, so hopefully I get another hit-out against GWS (Greater Western Sydney) and play well in that and put my hand up for round one."
Wright said the Crows weren't getting carried away with their form either. The club has been the performer of the pre-season, thrashing the Power and Blues in its first two games.
Much like his own form, Wright said his side was simply gearing up for round one, but that this pre-season was entered into with a 'win everything' approach.
"We don't really read into that [form] too much," he said.
"The boys are in good nick and we've got this attitude that we want to win every game that we play.
"It's important for us and our culture going forward that we do that.
"We'll review the game this week and then move forward and look forward to GWS."
