Adelaide’s Fan Fantasy team will confront the same opposition as our real-life side for the first time this weekend when the Fantasy Crows confront North Melbourne.
The challenge is ahead of us against the Kangaroos, who have been our Fan Fantasy nemesis all season.
The Roos sit on top of the AFL Fan Fantasy table after downing Port Adelaide last round. North defeated us by 19 points in our last meeting in Round Eight in a tight encounter. However, the Kangaroos’ only loss this season was back in Round Three when the Fantasy Crows took victory. Again, the margin was just 19 points.
We have a great chance to knock off the league leaders, but it all rides on Saturday night’s clash at Adelaide Oval. North Melbourne has added Andrew Swallow into their side for this week’s Fantasy clash, adding to their reliance on their own players to post a score. Likewise, our team features a host of Crows, which makes Saturday night’s clash crucial to both side’s Fantasy chances.
As expected, the Fantasy Crows thumped Geelong’s Fan Fantasy team last round in a tough Fantasy weekend across the competition. Our team did well to crack the 2000-point mark and post a total of 2026 to cruise to victory over the cellar-dweller Cats.
Our big performers were Tom Liberatore (112), Michael Barlow (109), Chad Wingard (125), Aaron Sandilands (123), Dustin Martin (123) and Jarryd Roughead (163).
The decision to gamble on Dayne Beams (76) with the captaincy backfired last week, while Ablett taunted us for stripping him of the role with a 146-point performance. The Roos have solely used Ablett as their captain this season, so we need to decide whether we play aggressive and back another of our gun mids, or if we play it safe and match them by slapping the ‘C’ on the little master. It’s your call, 19th Man, so make sure you vote below.
We also need your help on what we should do with Sam Lloyd, who has not played for Richmond since Round Nine. Lloyd has a great break even and could still grow in value, but patience is not usually an attribute of most successful Fantasy coaches.
One alternative could be to downgrade Lloyd to the dual-position Cameron Shenton, which would then allow us to swap Chad Wingard back to our forward line. This would free up some cash for us instantly, while Shenton has a break even of just 9 points for the upcoming round.
The final poll involves two other non-playing members of the Fantasy Crows.
Jed Bews has stalled on our backline bench and will not play for Geelong against St Kilda on Sunday. Do we take this opportunity to bring in Hawthorn’s Angus Litherland? The 21-year-old Hawk has a break even of -7 and was named on the bench for Hawthorn’s clash with Carlton.
The other option could be to trade out our bench ruckman Daniel Currie, who has been starved of opportunity at North Melbourne in 2014. Stefan Martin looks the best replacement, as the 27-year-old has been named in the ruck for Brisbane this weekend.
