Patrick Dangerfield and Brodie Smith are on track for All Australian berths in 2014, according to Champion Data's Official Player Ratings.

The ratings system measures all statistical facets of a player’s game, including their effectiveness and how a player’s involvement affects the next string of play. These factors are then applied to produce a ranking average that compares players against their peers.

The keys to a high Official Player Rating include effective ball use, spoils, intercepts in defence, contested possessions and metres gained.

Champion Data used its Official Player Ratings to compile a mid-season All Australian team.

Dangerfield, who has featured in the All Australian team for the past two seasons, has averaged 24 disposals and a goal a game in 2014. The joint Crows vice captain is ranked third in the competition for contested possessions and hard ball-gets, and sits seventh in the AFL for clearances.

Dangerfield was named on the interchange in Champion Data’s mid-season All Australian team.

22-year-old Smith is well on his way to his first All Australian cap after a terrific opening half of the season in defence. Smith leads the competition for long kicks and combined inside 50ms and rebound 50ms, and ranks as the fifth-best defender overall accord to Champion Data rankings.

He was named in a back pocket in Champion Data’s mid-season All Australian team.
