Crows Patrick Dangerfield and Tom Lynch each polled nine votes from the coaches in Adelaide’s win over the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium.
Dangerfield topped Adelaide’s possession count on Sunday with 28. Of Dangerfield’s 28 disposals, 21 were contested – a Round Six-high (level with Gary Ablett). Dangerfield also had 11 hard-ball gets (Ranked No.2 behind Ablett) seven clearances, seven tackles and six inside 50ms.
The two-time All Australian, who didn’t poll a vote in the first four rounds, has now collected 19 in his past two games to sit just outside the top 12 on the overall AFL Coaches Association leaderboard.
After returning as the substitute last week, Lynch was influential in his first full game of the season. The hard-running forward collected 25 touches, seven marks, four inside 50ms and kicked 2.1. He also had four score assists – ranked equal-first in the League in Round Six.
Forwards Josh Jenkins (four votes) and James Podsiadly (three votes) also earned recognition from the coaches for their dominance in attack. Bulldogs trio Matthew Boyd (two votes), Adam Cooney (two votes) and Tory Dickson (one vote) rounded out the voting.
Another 10 votes to Gary Ablett has seen the Gold Coast captain take the overall lead after six rounds. Geelong star Joel Selwood is second on 34 votes, with St Kilda champion Nick Riewoldt a further four vote behind (30).
Remarkably, six players earned perfect 10s in Round Six: Ablett, ANZAC Medallist Dane Swan, Carlton skipper Marc Murphy, Sydney ball winner Dan Hannebery, Hawthorn livewire Cyril Rioli and Port Adelaide’s Travis Boak.
