Brenton Sanderson and Rory Sloane have taken up the #IceBucketChallenge in support of the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Association and the fight against motor neurone disease.
Sanderson and Sloane were doused in icy water on Thursday after the duo were nominated by Geelong defender Corey Enright and SA premier Jay Weatherill respectively.
The pair follows AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan, Crows great and Club Board member Mark Ricciuto, and several other high-profile AFL identities in taking up the challenge.
The movement aims to raise awareness of motor neurone disease following the tragic news that former Essendon champion Neale Daniher has been battling the condition.
As part of the challenge, Rory Sloane nominated North Melbourne President James Brayshaw and Nova radio host Shane Lowe to take on the big chill, while Brenton Sanderson targeted former coach and current Essendon chief Mark ‘Bomber’ Thompson.
A soaked Sanderson said it was all for a great cause.
“It’s a great opportunity for us to raise support and get people talking about this debilitating disease,” he said.
“Motor neurone disease can bring many challenges to patients, as well as their friends and families.
“Hopefully what we’ve done today can bring a small smile to a few faces and encourage people to support the association.”
