For first year players, finding your feet at a new club can be difficult.
Thankfully, senior players often step in to help recruits acclimatise to life in the AFL system.
Speaking on The More You Crow, AFC Media’s new podcast hosted by Tom Doedee, first-year players Shane McAdam and Ned McHenry named the teammates who helped them settle at the Club.
“The main one for me is Brodie Smith,” McAdam said.
“Taking me in, letting me live in his house… looking after me.”
As for McHenry, who was selected with pick 16 in the 2018 National Draft, there were a few players to thank.
“I’ve said a few times, because I’m number 25, I’ve been so lucky with Sauce (Sam Jacobs) and Richard Douglas on both sides of me,” McHenry said.
“(There is) also Tommy Lynch at 27.
“In terms of a senior player, probably Richard Douglas has been the big one for me - he’s a great man.”
