The Adelaide Crows will relocate to the Gold Coast ahead of an AFL restart on June 11, AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan has confirmed.
On Friday, McLachlan said clubs would be free to train again from Monday (May 18) and resume full contact one week later on May 25.
The Crows and Port Adelaide will move to Southeast Queensland due to SA Health regulations enforcing no contact training.
West Coast and Fremantle will also relocate to the Gold Coast.
Players’ family members will be free to join them but must adhere to the same strict isolation protocols put in place by the AFL.
“They will be based on the Gold Coast for an initial period of four weeks,” McLachlan said.
“The AFL will continue to remain responsive with fixturing and can respond to any changes to restrictions in either state (SA or WA).”
The 2020 AFL fixture will be released in blocks up to six weeks, with the first block to be confirmed over the next 10 days.
“We will need to maintain maximum flexibility with the fixture, to allow for home games in each state should circumstances change,” McLachlan said.
“I feel confident that how we start is not how we will finish.”
Every player will be tested for COVID-19 twice per week throughout training and once the season resumes.
