On the goal review
I'll be really clear right at the start. Adelaide deserved to win tonight, they were the better team in a really close game.
Both teams going at it, they had a number of more entries, more contested possession. We had a chance to put them away but we didn't.
But to deal with that last moment where the player acknowledges it's hit the post and the AFL, in a billion-dollar industry, can wreck seasons for football clubs that work too hard.
If I was the AFL I'd be embarrassed and disappointed in an industry that's so important to so many people.
But I will say again, Adelaide Crows were the better team on the night and they deserved to win. But imagine that happening in eight weeks.
I have got no answer for it. The amount of time that’s getting spent on rule changes and the game of… we’ve had 24 hours of wonderful football, haven’t we… and we go wow, this is a pretty good game. There should be a lot more time spent in moments that are significant to outcomes and can put a season likes ours… we’ve been strong all year and we’ve still got a great opportunity but to lose that one that way…
As I said I’ll keep saying it, Adelaide
On Josh Jenkins’ post-game interview
I don’t know what Josh did or didn’t make [say] but from my point of view the score review is there to make sure this doesn’t happen and it continues to fail. Someone should be accountable for that cause I’m accountable
Nah [Jenkins shouldn’t have told the goal umpire].
On the contested possession battle
Adelaide had enough opportunities to put us away too and they didn't so we were probably a little lucky to be that close and in the
I was telling them we were going to lose the game. We had nothing else that we talked about, about the Adelaide Crows or ourselves, other than who wins the contested possession tonight will probably win the game. Not always but more often than not in a game against these two teams the contested possession is massive.
We tried lots of things obviously to get on top in that area, but to Adelaide's credit Crouch, Gibbs, Sloane, around the ball they were a bit better than we were tonight. Collectively their group of midfielders won the battle.
On whether further clarification would be sought
What for? No, look I’m not being disrespectful to you, but what for? What are they going to say, they got it wrong? Sorry, we got it wrong you now sit seventh. They will but they’ve got no consequence. They have absolutely got no consequence. As I said there’s no point in that space.
They’ll come out and say they got it wrong but that doesn’t… the technology should have changed that. The technology should have made sure this monumental mistake in a football season should never have appeared. I’ve heard other coaches, I’ve heard Dimma talk, I’ve heard
It was a great game of footy but there’s a major failure by the AFL tonight Major failure. But a great game of footy, worthy winners the Crows. Thank you.
