AFL clubs will “adapt to what the industry needs” to ensure the competition returns, Adelaide head of football Adam Kelly has said.
With 144 games still to be played in the shortened home-and-away season, Kelly told AFC Media that flexibility from clubs would be key.
“What is important is we try and get the season back underway and concluded,” Kelly said.
“Certainly from our Club’s point of view, we will be flexible and adaptable to what the industry needs in getting the season underway.
“Heads of football are receiving briefings two or three times a week and the clubs have been working collaboratively in the process.
“(Everyone) is demonstrating the desire to work together.”

Regarding the Adelaide Crows players, Kelly said the team were in constant contact.
“Players are doing really well,” Kelly said.
“They’re adhering to the programs as we’d expect them to be and they’re supporting each other… not only in the physical programs, but also in maintaining that connection.”
Due to the significant financial impact of not playing games, AFL clubs have been forced to restructure departments.
2020 AFL DRAFT: Approaching the unknown
Unfortunately, Kelly confirmed the Crows were not immune.
“One of the unfortunate realities is it will have a significant financial impact right across the board,” he said.
“From a football club perspective, our department won’t be the same in 2021 as it was in 2020.
“We’re already feeling the effects of that, trying to work our way through it.
“There are a lot of unknowns.”
